Steven Goldby - Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors
Mr. Goldby is currently serving as our interim chief executive officer. He has served as the chairman of our Board of Directors since April 2008 and is a partner at Venrock. From 1998 until 2007, Mr. Goldby was chief executive officer of Symyx Technologies, where he is currently Executive Chairman. Prior to Symyx, he was the chief executive officer of MDL Information Systems. Before MDL, he held various management positions at Alza Corporation, including president of Alza Pharmaceuticals. He was also President of Dynapol, and is a registered patent attorney. He currently serves on the board of Intermolecular, Inc. Mr. Goldby holds an A.B. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Stephen Empedocles, Ph.D. - Vice President of Business Development
Dr. Empedocles is our vice president of business development. Prior to this position, Dr. Empedocles was our director of business development. Other positions Dr. Empedocles has held prior to Nanosys are senior scientist at Ultraphotonics., and as a scientist at Quantum Dot Corporation. Dr. Empedocles holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Psychology from University of Colorado, Boulder and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Andrew Filler, Esq.- Vice President of Intellectual Property
Mr. Filler is our vice president of intellectual property. Other positions Mr. Filler has held prior to joining Nanosys are, chief intellectual property counsel at Caliper Technologies, senior associate attorney at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and director of intellectual property at Corvascular. Mr. Filler holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and a J.D. from University of San Francisco Law School.

Peter Garcia - Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Garcia is our chief financial officer. Other positions Mr. Garcia has held prior to joining Nanosys, are senior vice president, and chief financial officer of Nuvelo Inc. Mr. Garcia has also held the position of chief financial officer at Novacept Inc., IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, and Dendreon Corporation. His prior financial operations experience comes from Amgen Inc. and Teradata Corporation where he held a variety of financial management positions. Mr. Garcia holds a B.A. in Economics and Sociology from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Anderson School at University of California Los Angeles.

J. Wallace Parce, Ph.D. - Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Research
Dr. Parce is our chief technical officer and vice president of research. Dr. Parce was a co-founder of and served as vice president of research at Caliper Technologies. Prior to joining Caliper, Dr. Parce spent 12 years with Molecular Devices Corporation as a co-founder, consultant, director of research and vice president of research. Dr. Parce holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Western Maryland College and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Wake Forest University.
