LED Packaging Engineer #907

In this position you will be the lead optical design engineer responsible for the creation of a new set of LED illumination products based on Nanosys proprietary quantum dot phosphor technology. Part of your responsibilities will include working with chemists and packaging engineers in the development of novel packaging and integration techniques for quantum dots which maximize optical efficiency and light extraction. To qualify for this job you should have a track record integrating LED's into high performance illumination devices from concept to production.

Job Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience in optical design and testing.
  • Background in optical imaging and display technology.
  • Broad spectrum of working experience in optical & mechanical design for LEDs.
  • Optical/Mechanical Design : Zemax, ASAP/LightTools, ProE or equivalent.
  • Background in thermal modeling would be a plus.
  • Experience working with external vendors.
  • Project management experience preferred.

Education/Work Experience:

  • Minimum MS in physics or engineering with a specialization in optics.
  • Minimum 5 years industrial experience in integration of LED's into lighting systems.

We are looking for an assertive Product Manager who will develop and execute technical and business strategies for our quantum dot remote phosphor products in the solid state lighting and LCD display backlighting markets. 

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Using customer and trade research to define the specifications, features, performance and benefits of business to business products.
  • Developing and executing a strategic marketing plan for successful product introduction of Nanosys' Quantum Dot Phosphors.
  • Championing the marketing message of Nanosys' Quantum Dot Phosphors in its respective markets.  This would cover creation of presentation materials, datasheets, marketing communications materials, application guides.
  • Understanding competitive product/technology threats to form defensive product strategies.
  • Working with sales to monitor and drive key customer opportunities to ensure success.
  • Developing and meeting revenue and profit goals.

Experience and additional job requirements:

  • A BSEE in engineering or physics is required.
  • 5 -10 years experience in the semiconductor field at the component level.
  • 2 years of recent experience in the LED sector.
  • Strong working knowledge in light and color.
  • Proven track record in product management and marketing, including multiple successful product launches.
  • Ability to self-motivate in a start-up environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, technology development groups and sales.
  •  Ability to develop both strategic and tactical marketing plans, perform product positioning, develop and articulate product message and create collateral materials.
  • Ability to coordinate with sales to drive and monitor key customer opportunities to ensure success.

Nanosys uses high-IQE semiconductor quantum dots as remote phosphors (QDRP) for BLUs and applications in illumination. QDRPs are a superior solution since they enable spectral engineering, provide high energy efficiency and allow for easy systems integration.

Major responsibilities:
" Establish state-of-the-art reliability function for Quantum Dot Remote Phosphors Packages used in LED driven BLUs and illuminators.
" Define and manage product reliability qualification procedures and efforts.
" Work with Test Engineering to design and build test stations.
" Lead FA efforts to identify failure mechanisms.
" Propose and implement device reliability improvements in collaboration with the design, processing, and packaging teams.
" Work closely with external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, contract manufacturers).

Required Experience/skills:
" 5+ years of experience in LED reliability engineering in a production environment.
" Strong background in reliability engineering, semiconductor physics, and statistics.
