IFA 2015 kicks-off this Friday in Berlin and the biggest consumer electronics companies in the world are already busy promoting their big announcements for the upcoming holiday season. If you are not familiar with IFA, it’s a bit like the CES of Europe- a massive, weeklong show where all the biggest brands in the world show-off their latest gadgets- except bigger and longer standing (IFA was founded in the 1920’s to exhibit the hottest radios of the day).
Quantum Dots are sure to be one of the hottest TV technologies at IFA 2015. Here's your guide to the action...
Located in hall 21, TCL is set to show off their stunning new 8800S series UHD TV with QDEF Quantum Dot technology from Nanosys and 3M. The curved H8800 is expected to be a highlight of IFA 2015. The series, available in both 65’’ and 55’’, is loaded with next-generation display technologies like Quantum Dot (QD), Wide Color Gamut (WCG) and High Dynamic Range (HDR). It boasts a 4000R curvature and Harman/Kardon speakers to provide an unparalleled immersive experience in curvature, color, definition and sound. The curved screen is specially designed not only to create a vivid picture effect but also to reduce fatigue after long-time watching, while the Harman/Kardon speakers rarely seen in consumer electronics will bring professional audio effects to the customers.
Hisense will be in hall 6.2 (second floor) to debut their new flagship 65H10B2 UHD TV for a European audience for the first time. The Curved 4K ULED TV, which launched last week in NYC, offers a wide dynamic range for a more detailed, clearer and sharper image. The backlight control technology allows brightness control across 240-zones instead of over the entire display. With "Smart peaking", the Hisense ULED enhances black-to-black response time and allows the LED backlight to boost the peak brightness of individual zones. In addition, the Curved 4K ULED TV has dark field image enhancement which highlights specific bright details in the dark areas of an image bringing a more true-to-life picture on screen.
The Curved 4K ULED TV features QDEF Quantum Dot technology from Nanosys and 3M that produces over 100% of the current color standard which results in a wider color gamut for richer, more vivid and broader range of colors and hues. This enhances the range of colors on the screen and allows users to see more colors than ever before.
AUO, one of the world's largest display panel manufacturers, is expected to demonstrate their new AUO ALCD (Advanced LCD) panel technology in hall 27 (booth 122). Fresh off of a win for the Gold Panel award at the Touch Taiwan show last week, ALCD offers the latest technologies including UHD resolution, Quantum Dot color with QDEF, HDR and 4000R curvature all in a super slim package at sizes up to 85". The AUO and 3M solution is applicable to all TV brands and can easily integrate with their current manufacturing processes. The solution will be available in more LCD sizes with AUO ALCD entering mass production by the end of this year.
Samsung's already announced one of the first 4K UltraHD blu-ray players and support for HDR over HDMI 2.0 for their stunning SUHD TVs in the lead-up to IFA 2015. Look for the world's leading TV maker to show off the latest nanocrystal TV technology in their massive City Cube exhibition hall.
