Semiconductor Industry Pioneer Dr. Sass Somekh Joins Nanosys Board of Directors

Palo Alto, CA - (January 13, 2004). Nanosys, Inc., a leader in nanotechnology-enabled systems, announced today that Dr. Sass Somekh joined the company’s board of directors. Dr. Somekh was formerly an executive vice president and a board member of Applied Materials, the world's largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry.

Dr. Somekh has been a vital contributor to Applied Materials technical leadership and played a significant role in the growth of the company over the last 23 years. He has been responsible for the development and business success of several of the company’s breakthrough products. Dr. Somekh is a co-inventor of the Precision 5000, the first semiconductor-manufacturing system to be placed in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution. He has also received the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Institute’s SEMI Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his many contributions to the industry. Dr. Somekh is also a director of Synopsys, Inc.
