Exciton Technology to begin fulfilling orders for Nanosys-certified Quantum Dot Enhancement Film in early 2017

Ningbo, China and Milpitas, Calif., USA , March 16, 2017 – Nanosys, Inc., the global leader in Quantum Dot production, and Exciton Technology, the market leader in diffuser films for LCD displays, announced today that the two companies have strategically partnered in the development of optical Quantum Dot Enhancement Films (QDEF®) using cutting-edge nanotechnology for display applications. QDEF technology delivers the brightness and full palette of lifelike colors required for the full UltraHD TV user experience that will drive the market to $52 billion by 2020*. According to the agreement, Nanosys and Exciton will collaborate extensively to manufacture and market competitive QDEF products to improve the demand for high-performance displays.

The partnership was unveiled at a special event in Shanghai last week. Top Chinese Consumer Electronics brands including Hisense and Whaley joined Nanosys and Exciton in sharing their vision for the future of Quantum Dot technology in displays.

Exciton Technology is rapidly becoming a worldwide technology leader for QDEF films used in the manufacture of Ultra High Definition televisions. The company completed its initial public offering (IPO) on November 15, 2016 and is now listed on the Shenzhen Exchange (Exciton Tech 300566). In addition, Exciton, recently completed the construction of a new manufacturing facility with an advanced Quantum Dot coating line that is dedicated to QDEF production.

“Nanosys is the innovative leader in Quantum Dot technology – always providing the best quantum dot performance, material reliability, most competitive price and a solid IP foundation for Exciton and our customers,” said Dr. John Zhang, chief executive officer, Exciton Technology. “We have already secured orders from display makers and will begin shipping QDEF in mass production volumes during the first half of 2017.”

“Exciton is a world-leading manufacturer of optical films for displays, and has an execution-focused culture that moves fast, with a proven ability to thrive in this highly competitive market,” said Russell Kempt, vice president of global sales and marketing, Nanosys, Inc. “This new, China-based supply of high quality and cost competitive QDEF will further accelerate the utilization of Quantum Dot technology in UltraHD televisions.”

Advantages Quantum Dots
Nanosys QDEF Quantum Dot technology makes displays more vivid by enabling pure colors with lifelike brightness using cutting-edge nanotechnology. QDEF is a drop-in film that LCD manufacturers can integrate with existing production processes. It utilizes the light emitting properties of Quantum Dots to create an ideal backlight for LCDs -- one of the most critical factors in the color and efficiency performance of displays.
